This years basketball extravaganza is sure to feature over 275 teams and hoopsters from as far as Canada, Minnesota, and cities all along the East Coast challenging the ballers of NYC. This promises to be one of the phattest 3 on 3s in history. Come be a part of it.
This monster of a tournament was born in 1995 at the size of 75 teams. Through the years it has grown to as much as 300 teams. This year, with the additional weekend, 300+ teams is definitely in sight. This summer event is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. For many of you, this could be the 11th consecutive year hooping it up !!! For others, this could be your first. Just remember to drop buckets, have fun and make some friends!!!
Mark it down on your calendar, on Saturday, July 30th at the Seward Park Athletic Field, HSBC BANK will play hosts to the first ever HOOP ZONE. Here, you will get to shoot like the pros when you try your luck at the 3-point shootout. Theres also a hot shot contest, foul shooting contest and a fastbreak/skills court. The action starts at 12 noon and ends at 2:30pm. Prizes awarded to all age group winners. FREE FOR EVERYONE
Our 3 on 3 is the battle grounds for all ballers. It doesnt matter if youre tall or short, young or old, male or female, College player, League Standout, Intramural Player, Gym Rat, Street Baller or even just a beginner. With more and more of you ladies calling out I got Next! on the courts, it is our pleasure to bring you our Womens Open and Girls 17 and Under divisions. You bought the shoes, now lace em up and turn em loose.
Each team (four players), is placed in a division selected by yourself and competes against other teams of the same skill level. Divisions are set up according to a players skill level & playing ability, age, height, etc. Each team is guaranteed to play 3 games (two preliminary and one playoff) with the top teams advancing to their exciting divisional championships. Individual trophies and championship t-shirts will be awarded to all our divisional champions.
Regardless of your division, age, or skill level, we ask that you, your team, and your fans adhere to the basic philosophy surrounding our 3 on 3 - play hard and play fair; enjoy the game, regardless of the end result; try your best and be proud of your efforts; appreciate your teammates and opponents and their performances; so that you may enjoy your sports experience. HSBC GETTIN READY FOR THE 3ON3 This year's title sponsor, HSBC and Pauline Tse, senior officer at the Bowery Street branch, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 3on3, one of the Chinatown communities most eagerly awaited sporting event. With the expectation of a hot and sunny day, HSBC will be at the Columbus Park B-ball Courts distributing ice cold water to the participants. In addition, every couple of hours, HSBC will raffle off some gift certificates. And let's not forget about the HSBC HOOP ZONE, where you'll get the chance to shoot the trey, sink the pressure packed free throw, or see if you are "IN THE ZONE". COMPETITIVE ALL-STAR - Our top rated division. For those that want to compete against the best - many of which have played at the high school or college level
STREETBALL - Our second highest rated division. For those who want to play competitive teams and can hang with almost anyone in the playground CAGER GOLD - For those who play occasionally and are somewhat competitive
CAGER SILVER - Strictly for those who are 30+ over, play occasionally, and are somewhat competitive
OTHER DIVISIONS UNIVERSITY - Strictly for those who are between the ages of 16-22 yrs. old at tournament time
RISING STAR - Many of you have played in this division when this division was first established. Strictly for those players who are 17 and under at tournament time
HOOP DREAM - Here you will get to see some future hoopsters who can really play. Strictly for those players who are 15 and under by tournament time
WANNA BE LIKE MIKE - Our youngest division, it's strictly for those players who are 13 and under by tournament time
MENS MASTERS - Strictly for those teams with players over the age of 40
BLACKTOP (new) - This division is a step up from the Hoosier division. (In the past, if your team has performed exceptionally well in the Hoosier division, then it is time to move your team to this division)
WOMENS OPEN - Our top rated women's division. For those who want to compete against the best with no age restrictions
GIRLS (17-UNDER) - Strictly for those who are 17 and under by tournament time. If there are enough teams to form a 15-under or 13-under division, we will do so.
CO-ED (new) - Each team will consist of two men and THREE women. During play, two women must be on the court at all times. Please add additional player information by downloading a player add/change form.
JUST FOR FUN HOOSIER - For those players and teams who play only occasionally and play just for fun. All players in this division must be of the same skill level. (Be fair, and rate your team carefully)
FIVE FOOT TEN AND UNDER - Exactly what it says. Forget six foot, Asians are usually shorter. With all teams about the same size, there's a chance for anyone to win. Height will be checked at the tournament site.
ELIGIBILITY The tournament is open to players who are at least 50% Oriental Nationality. Oriental nationalities are as follows: Chinese, Filipinos, Koreans,Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Japanese.
ROOSEVELT PARK: GRAND STREET/FORSYTH STREET - easily accessible by D train (Grand Street Station)
COLUMBUS PARK: MULBERRY STREET/WORTH STREET - closest train station is the N train that stops at Canal Street
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: each team is guaranteed to play in at least 3 games throughout the tournament. In the playoff round/championship round, it's WIN AND ADVANCE. A loss and your team is done. Good Luck
1.Each team will consist of a maximum of four players. All players must be of Asian Oriental descent and he/she must at least 50% Asian Oriental (example: your mother or father must be 100% Asian/Oriental ). If there is any doubt, send proof (birth cert., passport, etc.) before the start of the tournament to verify. 2.A player may play on more than one team in the tournament except for the following conditions: All Star division players can also play in the Streetball, Co-ed, and age limit divisions. Hoosier division should be limited to those who want to play for fun. Please respect fellow hoopsters by joining the appropriate division. Players found violating this rule will be disqualified immediately. All rosters are final at time of submittal. No changes will be allowed regardless of injury. 3.We reserve the right to verify a players nationality, age, height, and playing experience. Each player is required to have some form of I.D. on days of the tournament. Failure to do so will result in forfeit or removal from the tournament.The burden of proof is on you. 4.All teams will be guaranteed to play in at least three scheduled games. Beginning with the Playoff Round - the format will be single elimination. 5.Each game will have a time limit of 20 minutes or the first team to score 30 points (Hoosier Divisions, Womens/Girls divisions and 17-under divisions = 15 minutes or first to score 25 points). The last minute of regulation time will be stop time (clock stops on made baskets). Overtime is 1 minute running, 1 minute stop time. Alternate possession after each basket. 6.Scoring: 2 points for baskets made inside the 3 point line; 3 points for each basket made outside the 3-point arc. Foul shots are worth 1 point each and players will not line up in the lane. 7.Each player is allowed five personal fouls. After fouling out, a player can not reenter game. Technical fouls count as team and personal fouls. All technical fouls are two shots and the ball. One and one begins on the teams ninth foul. Two shot bonus begins on the teams 13th foul. 8.Two timeouts per game and does not carry into overtime. Overtime = 1 timeout. 9.Absolutely no fighting is allowed. Subject to dismissal from the tournament. 10. We reserve the right to reduce the number of scheduled games, or shorten games, postpone or cancel event due to rain or unforseen circumstances. Raindates to be announced. 11. Referees provided by the New York Rockits Athletes In Action. Certified IAABO referees will make the calls in the Championship Round. 12. Absolutely no refunds will be given due to rain or postponement of event. 13. Each team must wear same color shirts, preferably with numbers. 14. What are the dates of the 3on3? a) July 30-31, and August 6, 2005.
When is the team entry deadline? a) All completed entries must be received by July 21, 2005.
Can I play in more than one division? Yes you can. However, you are only allowed to play in certain divisions. Let me explain. Here are the divisions where you can play in more than one division: a) All Star, Streetball, Cager Gold, Cager Silver, University, Blacktop and Co-Ed. However, if you play in All Star the only other division you may play in is Streetball.
Can I play in the All Star division and the Hoosier Division? a) Absolutely not. If you are playing in the All Star division, why would you want to play against players who aren't as good.
Which divisions are play for fun? a) The Hoosier division and 5 ft. 10 and under division are for players playing just for fun.
If I'm playing in the All Star division, which other divisions can I play in? a) other divisions: Streetball, Cager, Cager Silver 30+, Blacktop, Mens Masters, Co-ed, and University. But you shouldn't play in a division where you are that much better than someone.
What happens if I'm scheduled to play in two separate divisions at the same time? a) We will not postpone or change any games after the schedule is completed. It is up to you to attend the games.
Does my team need to wear the same color uniforms with numbers? a) Yes. It would make the referee's job that much easier.
Can I add or change a player from the original entry form that was submitted? a) You can add or change a player up until Wednesday, July 21st. After this date, no changes will be allowed on the rosters/entry form due to injury or any other matter. Teams found to be using any illegal player not on the roster/entry will be disqualified from the tournament immediately.
How can I add or change a player? a) On the 3on3 page, click onto the player change/add form and download a form. Send it to us or fax it to us at 718-456-8468 so that we can attach it to your roster/entry.
